According to punch newspaper, Galatasaray have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has sustained an ankle sprain after picking up an injury during Nigeria 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Saturday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier in Uyo.
The 26 year old forward was forced off midway through the first half following a challenge from Rwanda Claude Niyomugabo and was immediately attended to by medical staff before being substituted.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Turkish champions said medical examinations conducted in Istanbul revealed that Osimhen had suffered an ankle sprain.
The club assured fans that the striker has already begun treatment and will continue his rehabilitation under close supervision.
“Victor Osimhen has been diagnosed with an ankle sprain following further tests. He has started treatment and will be monitored by our medical team,” the club confirmed.
The injury means Osimhen will miss Nigeria crucial second qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
His absence is considered a significant blow for the Super Eagles, who rely heavily on his attacking presence.
Osimhen has been Nigeria leading striker in recent years, playing a pivotal role in their qualification campaign and continental competitions.
Despite the setback, Nigeria managed to secure all three points against Rwanda courtesy of a first half strike, but concerns remain about the fitness of their talisman ahead of the long qualifying campaign.
Galatasaray also face a nervous wait, with the striker being central to their domestic and European ambitions this season.
