Kachikwu Discusses the INEC Chairman's Exit: "I Knew It Was Coming"

 


According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, September 12, 2025, Dumebi Kachikwu, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has openly criticized Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Kachikwu said Yakubu’s recent recognition of the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC felt like a personal message to President Bola Tinubu. “I knew that, as the chairman was leaving, he was going to give the President a big middle finger,” Kachikwu stated. He believes Yakubu’s actions were meant to show displeasure toward the president.

According to Kachikwu, INEC’s decision was premature. Several legal cases concerning the ADC are still pending in court, making any public pronouncement inappropriate. “It was a mistake, and the judiciary should resolve it,” Kachikwu added, emphasizing the need for a fair legal process.

He described the situation as one of the most significant missteps in Nigeria’s electoral history, highlighting the delicate balance between regulatory authority and political neutrality. Kachikwu stressed that political leaders and electoral officials should focus on creating an environment of fairness rather than fueling tensions.

This dispute sheds light on deeper challenges within Nigeria’s political landscape. The ADC, under Kachikwu’s leadership, has faced multiple internal disputes, and the party’s supporters are watching closely as these issues unfold. Kachikwu hopes that the courts will bring clarity and stability to the party, ensuring that the voices of its members are respected.

Despite the tensions, Kachikwu remains committed to his political mission. He reassured party members and Nigerians alike that his focus remains on advancing democratic principles and providing genuine alternatives in national leadership.

Barca never had financial room to register Olmo -La Liga

 La Liga said Wednesday Barcelona did not have the financial capacity to register players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor and still lack it, ahead of a decision by Spain’s sports council (CSD) over the duo’s eligibility to play.
