In a decisive move, Arsenal makes a larger offer than Barcelona after a £60 million star decides he wants to move.

Spanish winger Nico Williams is apparently more interested in joining Arsenal than Barcelona, but the player seems to prefer a move to Camp Nou.

After another trophyless season where they once again finished second in the Premier League, Arsenal are determined to reinforce their squad this summer. Injuries to forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz highlighted the club’s lack of a true No.9, and manager Mikel Arteta is eager to fix that. The Gunners have been linked with several strikers, including Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, and Ollie Watkins.

In addition to a striker, Arsenal are targeting a new winger to compete with or replace Gabriel Martinelli, who struggled during the 2024/25 season. While Rodrygo was previously considered a top target, Arsenal now risk missing out due to a massive rival offer.

This has led them to refocus on Nico Williams, a long-term target who had a standout season at Athletic Bilbao, registering 7 goals and 11 assists. Although his high wage demands blocked a move last summer, Arsenal have now submitted an aggressive bid — reportedly worth €71 million (£60m) including his release clause, and a salary package of €9 million annually.

Despite Arsenal’s higher offer, Spanish outlet Sport claims Williams wants to join Barcelona and is willing to accept lower wages to make the move happen. He is also prepared to wait, giving new Barça coach Hansi Flick time to reach an agreement with Bilbao.

Meanwhile, Arsenal continue their striker search, with Football Insider reporting that Benjamin Sesko remains their top choice over Gyokeres, due to his younger age and experience in a stronger league.

Barca never had financial room to register Olmo -La Liga

La Liga said Wednesday Barcelona did not have the financial capacity to register players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor and still lack it, ahead of a decision by Spain’s sports council (CSD) over the duo’s eligibility to play.
