Chief Bode George, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) veteran, has disclosed vital data about the deteriorating relationship between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike.
During a talk on Nigeria Info FM, George explained how the disagreement arose from a lack of appropriate communication and divergent leadership expectations. He added that Governor Fubara felt deceived by Wike's persistent public comments, despite their previous strong relationship.
According to George, Fubara told the PDP's Board of Trustees that Wike frequently lashed out at him in the public rather than resolving issues privately.
“Fubara said every time he made important decisions, he hoped Wike would reach out to him and express his views personally,” George said. “But instead, Wike chose to criticize him harshly on radio and TV.”
The public rebukes, George noted, deeply unsettled Fubara, who felt he was being treated as a subordinate. The governor reportedly stressed that he was fully capable of managing the affairs of the state and expected mutual respect.
With Wike now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, his feud with Fubara remains a significant source of political friction in Rivers State. Although there have been efforts to resolve the dispute, the power struggle continues to cast a long shadow over the state's political dynamics.
